Fatal Norristown Crash

On Sunday, a speeding driver caused a deadly collision in Norristown. Police say the driver sped through the intersection of Dekalb and Basin Streets, crashing into a family of three crossing the intersection in a silver SUV. The father was pronounced dead at the scene. The mother was rushed to Temple Hospital, and a young child was transported to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
The driver who caused the crash was also taken to an area hospital. It is unclear whether he will face charges in the collision.
Though the posted speed limit on Dekalb Street is 25 mph, residents say speeding is a constant problem and that the road is dangerous. Just a few hours later, a second crash occurred in the same intersection.
Intersection accidents are tragically common, often involving drivers who are speeding, running a red light, or failing to yield, resulting in devastating consequences. Urban intersections are especially dangerous when vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists can all converge on an intersection simultaneously. When a speeding driver causes a collision, the force of impact increases significantly, making injuries more likely to be catastrophic or fatal.
